Facebook Introduces a Website Chat Plugin for Businesses

November 21, 2017

In a news release made on November 7, 2017, Facebook announced that its newest Messenger Platform 2.2 would offer new and exciting features that work to build engagement with customers.

Facebook Customer Chat Plugin Release

One of the most exciting features released in this update is the ability to extend your Facebook Messenger experience to your business’ website.

“With customer chat plugin, people can chat with businesses on their websites and in Messenger (across web, mobile or tablet) and transition back and forth seamlessly without losing the conversation’s history and context. This makes it easier for customers to continue the conversation with a business whenever and wherever it’s most convenient for them.” – Facebook

Unfortunately, the chat plugin is still in beta testing right now. You can however, apply to Facebook’s waitlist and you’ll be notified when the Customer Chat plugin is available for you.

What Does This Mean For Your Business?

With the new chat plugin, you’ll be able to help walk potential customers through the sales process and/or answer questions about your products, services, shipping details, and more on your website as well as continue that conversation seamlessly on Facebook if the customer needs to cut the conversation on your website short.

You can also follow up to ensure they’re happy with their purchase and provide additional customer service down the line.

This application is also a great opportunity for businesses that utilize chatbots. Chatbots are software programs developed to simulate intelligent conversation through written or spoken text. So instead of you having to carry on hundreds or thousands of chat sessions, the chatbot does most of the work for you.
