Five Tips to Assess Your Website's Ability to Convert Visitors

June 17, 2014

When people visit your website, they are seeking information. In this day of instant information, a consumer is going to quickly scan your website to determine if your products and/or services are right for them.

Spend a moment to take a step back and evaluate:

  • Does your website convey a professional image of your company?

If your website doesn't convey what your business does, then your website isn't doing its job. Having a professional website design and layout is essential to the success of your website as a whole, even if it's not your primary customer traffic system.
  • Can visitors quickly find your products & services?

Customers will lose interest in a site after about 7 seconds. If they haven't found what you do or if you're useful to them in that amount of time, you'll just have another bounced visit.
  • Do you share a powerful value proposition of why someone should select your company instead of a competitor?

Communicating what your company does differently then the competition is what will convince them to select you over them. Don't be shy in telling them your achievements or duration of service. You never know what may strike a potential customer as important information.

  • Is it easy to contact your company via phone and email?

Having a clear, bold phone number on your homepage or a contact form for a visitor to fill out is essential in communicating clearly to customers how to reach you.
  • What are you asking the visitor to do to engage them with your company?

A clear call to action is needed for websites to meet certain goals. Whether it be to "call us now" or "download your free report", letting the customer know the next step is essential if you want them to proceed within your company.

When asking these questions, remember a visitor is determining whether to select your company. Your website should be a resource of information relevant to your industry. With the right combination of content, layout and call-to-actions, you can connect quickly with visitors and convert them into customers.
