Mobile Websites are Becoming Crucial to Every Business

August 26, 2014

By the end of 2013, over a third of Internet usage came from smartphones and tablets, according to Walker Sands Communications’ Quarterly Mobile Traffic Report.

This statistic alone is enough to make it crucial to have your website display correctly on a mobile phone. 4 out of 5 smartphone users say they do some online shopping on their phones. This means if your website is hard to read on a mobile phone, you are losing customers! One way to convert mobile users is to keep the most important information easily readable at the top.

Responsive Design

Many companies are told their website is “mobile optimized”. However, utilizing what’s called “responsive design” can be much more beneficial for your business website. The basic principle of responsive design is that the software of your website recognizes what type of device is looking at your site and changes the layout to accommodate that device. This keeps the important information in front of the consumer in a cleaner, more mobile-friendly way.

Prepare Your Website

It won’t be long before mobile Internet usage exceeds desktop Internet usage. You want your mobile website to be inviting to prospective customers and convert the web traffic into new business appointments. Using responsive design makes it easier for your customers to find the information they need to make a decision. The great thing is they can always go back to your full website later when they get home and search further into everything you offer. A lot more people are taking their online shopping out-of-home and at SMT we can help prepare you for this shift.
