Back in February, we explained the new social media app, Clubhouse, that’s available only on iOS devices — until now! That’s right, Android users around the world will be able to join the conversation. Here’s what you need to know about Clubhouse and what to expect with the Android app so you can take advantage of its networking possibilities.

How the Clubhouse App Works

Clubhouse is an audio-based social media app where users can chat in real-time with each other by joining a virtual chat room and using their voice. Users are able to join different rooms where people are talking about various topics or create their own room around any topic.

The rooms are similar to live podcast streams except you have the opportunity to chime in. When a user enters the room, the audio automatically turns on so they can listen to the conversation. However, only the host is able to decide who can speak by inviting a user to be a speaker or allowing a user to speak if they “raise their hand.”

Clubhouse vs Other Social Networks

There are a number of things that make the Clubhouse app different from other social networks. First, it’s an audio-based app whereas other networks — like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok — are more about visual and written media. Second, the app has an exclusivity factor. This is uncommon for social networks which typically measure success by the number of users rather than the engagement between users.

What to Expect from the Android App

Before now, the Clubhouse app was only available on the Apple Store and the only way to become a user was to be invited by an existing user or join a waitlist. The app is less exclusive now that an Android app is being launched, however, you still need to get an invite or join the waitlist to become a user.

According to TechCrunch, the Android app currently lacks certain features. For instance, users couldn’t follow a topic, create or manage a club, link their social profiles, make payments or change their profile name or user name. Clubhouse says it’s working to bring iOS features to the Android app.

Make More Online Connections

Although the Android app is still in its early stages, it’s still worth exploring as a networking tool for entrepreneurs and digital marketers. Create a room to share ideas with other industry leaders or provide insights that will establish you as an expert. No matter which social networks you’re on, it’s crucial to remember that social media is about making connections.
