Want to Drive Traffic to Your Site? Consider Using These Blog Topics.

November 5, 2013

In October, we told you about the Hummingbird update from Google. While it has not had a large effect on SEO, it does provide an opportunity to help your website’s rankings via blogging. Sometimes, though, you don’t know where to start. What do people want to read in blogs?

Here are some topics to get you started on having a relevant and useful blog for your website:

1. Answer Questions. The Hummingbird update focuses largely on how people are asking Google questions. They are looking for direct answers to specific things. Think about the questions your clients or customers ask you the most – maybe they want to know the best kind of paint for the exterior of their home, or they have a general medical question that relates to your specialty field. Use your blog to answer these questions.

2. Use Lists or How To’s. When performing a Google search, people are looking for answers fast. Offer bulleted lists in your blogs that allow the viewer to achieve understanding quickly. These can be unorganized lists, or “Top 5 Best” or “Top 10 Worst” sorts of lists. Step-by-step “how to” blogs are also popular.

3. Get Visual. Many people are visual learners. Including photos related to your blog topic can be a great way to engage your readers. For example, an Orlando dentist may feature a before and after shot of veneers when discussing dental work. Or, an interior designer might show off their work when offering tips on how to update a room. If you do not have photos to illustrate your blog topic, infographics can also be implemented in the blog.

4. Keep it Relevant. Tying your blog to current events can keep it relevant, and give you an endless supply of blogging ideas – new information comes out regularly in almost every industry. Or, concentrate on the time of the year – for example, can you create a tie in between the holiday season and your company? Or, could you use the current weather to develop a blog topic (Summertime vacation necessities for a travel company, or hurricane tips for a construction company)?

By keeping these tips in mind, you can create countless relevant blogs to engage readers and keep your website’s content fresh. If you need help learning how to blog, or would like help writing blogs, contact Sales & Marketing Technologies today!
